Ahn Bo Hyun Previews Bigger Scale and New Partnership in Flex x Cop 2
Ahn Bo Hyun says Flex x Cop 2 will return with a larger scale, sharper action, and a fresh detective partnership with Jung Eun Chae.

Ahn Bo Hyun is preparing to bring Jin Yi Soo back with more confidence, more polish, and a bigger sense of spectacle when Flex x Cop 2 premieres next month. In a new preview interview ahead of the SBS drama’s return, the actor described the second season as a continuation that keeps the original show’s playful energy while pushing its lead character into a more mature stage of his detective career.
The series once again centers on Jin Yi Soo, a third-generation chaebol heir who found an unlikely second life in police work. Season 1 used that contradiction as its engine: a privileged attention-seeker entered the violent crimes unit almost by accident, then slowly discovered a real sense of justice and loyalty. Season 2 picks up after that transformation, with Yi Soo having completed formal police academy training and returning to the field as someone who can no longer be dismissed as a novelty.
Ahn said the creative team spent time discussing how to show that change without losing the character’s appeal. The goal, as he explained it, was to keep Yi Soo’s bright, impulsive, almost puppy-like personality while giving him the steadier instincts of a detective who has learned from experience. That balance matters because Flex x Cop is built on contrast: Yi Soo is at his funniest when he is extravagant, but the cases only work if viewers believe he is serious when the stakes rise.
A Wealthy Detective With Bigger Tools
The actor also teased that the drama’s signature money-powered investigations will become even more eye-catching in the new season. One detail he singled out is Yi Soo’s private jet, which is expected to make an immediate impression when the character reappears. The show has always treated wealth as both a comic device and an investigative shortcut, letting Yi Soo solve problems in ways that would be impossible for an ordinary detective.
That heightened style appears to be central to Season 2’s promise. Rather than making the story more grounded, the new episodes seem ready to lean into the fantasy of watching a detective use influence, resources, and sheer audacity to break through dead ends. Ahn described the appeal as a kind of vicarious satisfaction: criminals who expect the system to move slowly may instead face someone whose money and connections let him act at an impossible scale.
Action is another area where Ahn wants returning viewers to feel continuity. He said he personally filmed many of the action sequences without relying on a stunt double, aiming to keep the physical scenes as sharp as those in the first season. For a drama that mixes comedy, crime, and hero fantasy, that detail is significant. The humor may draw viewers in, but the action has to carry enough weight for each case to feel consequential.
Jung Eun Chae Joins the Investigation
The most important new relationship in the season is Yi Soo’s partnership with Joo Hye Ra, played by Jung Eun Chae. Hye Ra is introduced as his former police academy instructor and the new leader of Violent Crimes Unit 1, which gives the pair a built-in hierarchy before they ever become colleagues. According to Ahn, Yi Soo becomes unusually subdued around her, especially because Hye Ra has no problem scolding him or calling out his reckless behavior.
That dynamic could give Season 2 a fresh rhythm. In the first season, much of Yi Soo’s comedy came from how other detectives reacted to his money, confidence, and celebrity-like presence. With Hye Ra, the balance shifts. She has already seen him as a trainee, which means she is not likely to be impressed by his wealth or intimidated by his style. Her presence may force him to prove that his growth is real, not just decorative.
Ahn also spoke warmly about working with Jung, describing her as charming, easygoing, and straightforward off camera. That detail suggests the production is counting on chemistry beyond simple friction. If Yi Soo is the impulsive showman and Hye Ra is the disciplined leader, their partnership can create both conflict and momentum, especially as the cases grow larger and the team adjusts to its new structure.
Returning cast members Kang Sang Jun and Kim Shin Bi will also continue as part of Violent Crimes Unit 1. Ahn said the team’s rapport has become strong enough that the actors can understand one another through small looks, an advantage for a sequel that depends on ensemble timing. The unit’s bickering and gradual unity were part of the first season’s charm, and Season 2 appears ready to build on that foundation rather than reset it.
Flex x Cop 2 is scheduled to premiere on August 7 at 9:50 p.m. KST. With a richer Jin Yi Soo, a stricter new partner, larger cases, and action designed to match the first season’s pace, the drama is positioning itself as a flashy weekend crime comedy that understands exactly what viewers enjoyed the first time: justice delivered with scale, speed, and a sense of fun.
