BTS has added another U.S. radio milestone as NORMAL debuted at No. 40 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart. The entry gives the group its 11th career appearance on the ranking and arrives nearly five months after the song was first released in March.
NORMAL reaches mainstream Top 40 radio
The Pop Airplay chart measures weekly plays from mainstream Top 40 radio stations across the United States. Unlike rankings built around album sales or on-demand streaming, it focuses on how often songs are broadcast by the monitored radio format.
NORMAL enters at the final position of the 40-place chart. Although No. 40 is the starting point for its current run, crossing onto the ranking establishes that the track received enough measured airplay to join the week’s listed songs.
The timing makes the debut particularly notable. New songs often receive their strongest promotional attention close to release, but NORMAL reached Pop Airplay almost five months into its public life. That delay gives the B-side a fresh point of visibility well after the initial launch of BTS’s latest album.
A B-side from ARIRANG develops its own momentum
NORMAL appears on BTS’s fifth full-length album, ARIRANG. It was not introduced as the album’s main title track, which makes its radio entry a distinct development within the broader album cycle.
B-sides can reach listeners through full-album playback, fan recommendations, performances, short-form clips, and later promotional decisions. A radio chart appearance does not identify which path contributed most in this case, but it shows that NORMAL moved beyond its role as one track in the album sequence and gained measurable exposure within U.S. pop programming.
The song’s debut also extends the active period surrounding ARIRANG. An album campaign can continue through different songs at different moments, allowing attention to shift from a lead single to another track without requiring a completely new project.
Radio airplay represents a different kind of access from listener-selected streaming. Audiences encounter programmed songs as part of a station’s rotation, which can introduce a track to people who were not already searching for it. For BTS, that format adds another channel through which NORMAL can reach a general pop audience.
BTS reaches 11 Pop Airplay chart entries
The new debut expands a catalog of BTS songs that have previously appeared on the Pop Airplay chart. The group’s earlier entries are MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix), Fake Love, Waste It On Me, Boy With Luv, Make It Right, Dynamite, Butter, My Universe, Bad Decisions, and SWIM.
That list spans group releases and collaborations, showing several routes into U.S. mainstream radio. Some songs arrived with prominent featured artists or producers, while others were central BTS singles. NORMAL adds a different profile as an album B-side entering the chart months after release.
The milestone is cumulative rather than a claim that all 11 tracks performed identically. Each entry had its own release context, promotional schedule, and chart trajectory. What the total demonstrates is repeated access to a radio format that remains one component of the American pop market.
The next chart week will show its direction
A No. 40 debut confirms NORMAL as BTS’s latest Pop Airplay entry, but one week alone does not establish how long the song will remain or how high it may climb. Future rankings will show whether airplay expands, holds steady, or shifts as stations update their playlists.
For now, the achievement gives BTS an 11th career entry and provides ARIRANG with another measurable U.S. chart result. It also highlights the unusual longevity of a track that found a new milestone nearly five months after its original release.
