Hwang Jung Min topped July’s movie star brand reputation rankings after a sharp rise tied to interest in his upcoming sci-fi action film HOPE.

Hwang Jung Min has taken first place in July’s movie star brand reputation rankings, underscoring how quickly public attention can move when a respected actor is tied to a high-profile screen project.
The Korean Business Research Institute released its latest monthly list for film actors on July 17. According to the institute, the rankings were based on big data collected from June 17 through July 17 and measured consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community awareness for 50 popular movie stars.
Hwang rose to No. 1 with a brand reputation index of 5,064,423. The result marked a 265.16 percent increase from the previous measurement period, making his climb the clearest movement in this month’s upper tier.
Why Hwang Jung Min Rose To No. 1
The institute’s keyword analysis linked Hwang’s July performance to terms including HOPE, the Cannes Film Festival, and sci-fi action. Those phrases point to rising attention around the actor’s film work and the way international festival visibility can feed domestic media interest.
His related-term analysis included words such as “record,” “look forward to,” and “fight desperately,” while the institute reported a 91.04 percent positive score in its positivity-negativity analysis. Taken together, the figures suggest that discussion around Hwang was not only broad but largely favorable.
Brand reputation rankings are not a direct measure of box-office power or acting quality. They are better understood as a snapshot of digital visibility: how often an actor is being searched, covered, discussed, and associated with active projects during a specific period.
Koo Kyo Hwan, Zo In Sung, And A Competitive Top Five
Koo Kyo Hwan placed second in July with a brand reputation index of 4,822,716. The gap between first and second was narrow enough to show that this month’s lead was not a runaway result, even with Hwang’s large percentage increase.
Zo In Sung ranked third with a score of 4,124,315. Park Ji Hoon followed closely in fourth at 4,118,407, while Gong Yoo completed the top five with 4,030,043. The small spread from third through fifth shows a crowded field in which drama appearances, film promotion, and long-running star recognition can all keep actors near the top.
The rest of the top 10 included So Ji Sub, Jun Ji Hyun, Shin Min Ah, Kim Moo Yul, and Choi Min Sik. That mix reflects the breadth of Korea’s screen industry, where established film names and stars with strong television or streaming profiles often compete in the same public-attention space.
What The July List Shows About Korean Film Visibility
Monthly brand data can be especially volatile in entertainment because a single trailer, casting update, festival appearance, or promotional cycle can quickly change the volume of conversation around an actor. Hwang’s sharp rise fits that pattern, with attention around HOPE giving the ranking a clear news hook.
The list also shows how Korean movie stars increasingly build visibility across formats. Some actors gain momentum from theatrical releases, while others benefit from dramas, streaming titles, variety appearances, or international event coverage. The ranking captures those overlapping channels rather than isolating one career lane.
For readers, the July results are most useful as a guide to who is commanding attention right now. Hwang Jung Min’s No. 1 position signals strong anticipation around his next major screen work, while Koo Kyo Hwan, Zo In Sung, Park Ji Hoon, and Gong Yoo remain close enough to keep the top tier highly competitive heading into the next cycle.
