Girls’ Generation members Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung are officially launching their new unit HyoRiSoo. The trio will release its debut digital single Skibidi on August 31 at 6 p.m. KST, turning a project that developed through online entertainment content into a formal music release.
The single contains two songs: the title track “Skibidi” and the B-side “Lowkey in Love.” Together, they are designed to introduce the unit through contrasting but connected dance-pop styles, with the members’ humor and performance chemistry positioned at the center of the project.
Two songs establish HyoRiSoo’s sound
“Skibidi” begins with house elements before moving into hip-hop, creating a noticeable genre shift within the track. Arabian-style string samples add an exotic tonal accent, while the lyrics carry a message about making a new path of their own. The arrangement gives the three veteran performers room to present a lively identity that is separate from their individual work and full-group activities.
“Lowkey in Love” approaches that energy from a different direction. The dance-pop B-side combines a retro atmosphere with bright brass, a rhythmic groove, and a catchy melody. Its upbeat character is intended to reflect the unit’s positive, playful image while broadening the two-song release beyond the harder rhythmic turn of the title track.
The concise format makes the single function as a focused introduction rather than an extensive album statement. Each song highlights a different side of the same concept: “Skibidi” emphasizes shifts in rhythm and genre, while “Lowkey in Love” leans into melody, brass, and nostalgic color. For a newly formalized unit, that contrast offers a quick outline of the range HyoRiSoo wants to explore. It also keeps the spotlight on the members’ chemistry instead of asking listeners to navigate a larger track list during the unit’s first official release cycle.
A YouTube project becomes an official unit
HyoRiSoo grew from appearances by the three members on Hyoyeon’s personal YouTube channel, Hyo’s Level Up. Their shared content attracted attention as Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung developed the idea of working together. The preparation process later became part of the entertainment itself, allowing viewers to follow the project before a release date was confirmed.
One recurring element involved the members competing over positions such as main vocalist and center. The playful contest drew interest because it used the language of a rookie-group debut while featuring performers with nearly two decades of experience. That contrast helped define HyoRiSoo as both a serious music project and an extension of the members’ established variety-show chemistry.
The unit also adds a new configuration to Girls’ Generation’s long-running career. The group previously introduced Girls’ Generation-TTS with Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun, while other member combinations have supported different eras and activities. HyoRiSoo puts Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung together in a format shaped by their own rapport and by an audience that watched the concept take form in public.
First stages arrive before the digital release
HyoRiSoo is not waiting until August 31 to reveal the new material onstage. The trio is scheduled to perform both “Skibidi” and “Lowkey in Love” for the first time at the 2026 CassCool Festival at Seoul Land in Gwacheon on August 22. The festival preview gives the songs a live introduction nine days before they reach streaming platforms.
The performance-first rollout suits a unit built around three experienced entertainers whose dance, vocal, and variety skills are already familiar to K-pop audiences. It also gives fans an early look at how the songs translate from the recording and rehearsal process to a full festival setting. When the digital single arrives, HyoRiSoo will therefore enter its official debut with both a documented preparation story and completed public stages behind it.
