ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM have each crossed a major streaming benchmark in Japan with new RIAJ platinum certifications.

ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM have added new platinum streaming certifications in Japan, marking another sign of K-pop’s continued strength in one of Asia’s most competitive music markets.
The latest certifications from the Recording Industry Association of Japan recognize ILLIT’s Japanese digital single Almond Chocolate and LE SSERAFIM’s Korean single CRAZY after each song surpassed 100 million streams in Japan. The benchmark places both tracks in the platinum tier under the association’s streaming certification system.
For both groups, the certifications carry significance beyond a single chart headline. Japan remains a major revenue and audience center for Korean pop acts, with strong demand across streaming platforms, physical albums, concerts, fan events, and broadcast appearances. A 100 million-stream certification shows that a song has moved beyond short-term fan activity and maintained enough listening volume to meet a nationally recognized industry threshold.
What The Platinum Benchmark Means
The RIAJ expanded its certification framework in 2020 to include online streaming, reflecting the way music consumption had shifted from downloads and physical formats toward repeated digital listening. Under that system, a song becomes silver at 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams.
Those levels are especially useful for measuring endurance. Daily and weekly charts can capture intense bursts of interest around a comeback, but certifications usually point to broader and more sustained listening. Reaching platinum means a track has remained active enough across platforms to accumulate a large total audience over time, even after the initial promotional cycle has passed.
ILLIT’s achievement with Almond Chocolate is notable because the song was released as a Japanese digital single in 2025. A localized release can help an act deepen its relationship with Japanese listeners, particularly when the song is designed for that market rather than simply promoted there after a Korean release. Its platinum certification suggests that ILLIT’s Japanese strategy has translated into measurable streaming traction.
LE SSERAFIM’s certification for CRAZY highlights a different kind of momentum. The track, originally released as a Korean hit in 2024, has continued to find listeners in Japan strongly enough to reach the same 100 million-stream mark. That kind of cross-market performance is valuable because it shows that the group’s Korean discography can travel effectively without relying only on region-specific releases.
A Sign Of K-pop’s Staying Power In Japan
The two certifications also reflect a wider industry pattern. K-pop groups often build in Japan through a combination of Japanese-language releases, arena-scale touring, fan club activity, and steady media exposure. Streaming certifications now sit alongside those older measures as a visible indicator of how deeply a song has entered everyday listening habits.
For newer-generation acts, Japan can be both a proving ground and a multiplier. Success there can support tour demand, strengthen brand partnerships, and expand an artist’s international profile. Platinum streaming marks are not the only measure of that progress, but they provide a concrete data point in a market where long-term fan engagement matters.
The timing is also meaningful for the two groups’ public narratives. ILLIT has been building recognition as a younger act with a growing international footprint, while LE SSERAFIM has already established a reputation for high-impact performance concepts and global-facing releases. Seeing both names in the same certification batch underlines how different stages of a K-pop career can produce strong results in Japan.
As streaming continues to shape how music success is tracked, certifications like these will likely remain important markers for agencies, artists, and fans. For ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM, the latest platinum recognitions add another measurable accomplishment to their Japan records and reinforce the market’s central role in K-pop’s global expansion.
