A legal dispute tied to actor Kim Soo Hyun has taken on a new dimension after Korean outlet reports said YouTuber Kim Se Ui, operator of the channel Garo Sero Institute, was assigned to a single-occupancy cell while detained. The report has drawn attention not only because of the defamation allegations connected to Kim Soo Hyun, but also because it raises questions about how correctional authorities respond when a detainee’s safety is said to be at risk.

According to the report cited by Koreaboo, Kim Se Ui was arrested after accusations that he spread false information about Kim Soo Hyun, including claims linking the actor to the death of actress Kim Sae Ron. Those claims have not been accepted as fact in court, and the current reporting frames them as alleged falsehoods at the center of a defamation case.

The Seoul Central District Court reportedly approved an arrest warrant for Kim Se Ui last month. He was first held at the Gangnam Police Station detention facility before being moved to the Seoul Detention Center, where he has reportedly been kept in a single cell since early June.

The unusual part of the story is the reported reason for the placement. Kim Se Ui’s legal team expressed concern that he could face retaliation while in custody, according to the same report. He is also scheduled to stand trial on August 13, 2026, in a separate case involving charges of stalking and intimidation against well-known mukbang creator Tzuyang. That separate trial means the YouTuber is facing multiple legal pressures at once, even though the cases involve different alleged victims and different facts.

For Kim Soo Hyun, the case arrives at a moment when Korean entertainment figures are increasingly confronting online rumor ecosystems through legal channels. Agencies and public figures have become more willing to pursue complaints over defamation, malicious posts, privacy violations, and fabricated claims, arguing that rapid online circulation can cause damage long before the facts are tested.

At the same time, the case underscores the need for careful reporting.
