BLACKPINK will mark 10 years since its debut with an intimate anniversary event in Seoul on August 8. The gathering is set to bring a small group of fans together during a milestone week for the quartet, whose music, tours and individual projects have made them one of K-pop’s most recognizable global acts.
The event was announced through the group’s fan community platform, with attendance limited to 40 people. Detailed logistics, including the exact venue and time, are to be shared with the successful applicants rather than published broadly in advance. Eligibility was tied to a membership purchase deadline, framing the occasion as a closely managed fan event rather than an open public celebration.
A Decade Since Debut
Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa debuted as BLACKPINK in 2016 and quickly built a catalog that paired polished pop production with an unmistakable performance identity. Songs such as Whistle, Playing with Fire, DDU-DU DDU-DU and How You Like That helped establish the group across Korean and international charts, while large-scale touring expanded its audience well beyond the traditional K-pop market.
The 10th anniversary arrives after a period in which the members have balanced group commitments with busy individual schedules. That context is reflected in the event notice, which indicated that member attendance may depend on each artist’s availability. The format leaves room for a commemorative gathering while acknowledging the practical demands of four careers that now extend across music, fashion, acting, brand work and other projects.
For an act with a worldwide fan base, a 40-person event is necessarily symbolic rather than representative of the scale of its audience. Still, a small setting can give an anniversary a more personal character: it focuses on a direct encounter and a shared marker of the group’s history rather than a large production. The event also places the anniversary itself at the center of the schedule, separate from a new album rollout or concert announcement.
Group History and a New Collection
BLACKPINK renewed its group agreement with YG Entertainment in 2023, preserving the framework for future activities as a quartet. Since then, the members have continued to develop their own work while the group remains a major point of connection for BLINKs. Their eighth anniversary in 2024 included a livestream and a red-carpet event connected to the concert film BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] IN CINEMAS, offering a recent example of how the group has used anniversary dates to look back on its shared journey.
August 8 will also see the launch of the BLACKPINK Heritage Collection, a merchandise project created with YG PLUS and the National Museum of Korea’s merchandise brand MUDS. The collaboration links a contemporary pop act with Korean heritage-inspired design, adding a cultural retail component to the anniversary date. It is a notable fit for a group whose visual identity has long traveled across global fashion, music and luxury spaces.
The pairing of a small in-person event and a wider retail release gives the anniversary two distinct dimensions. One is designed for direct participation by a limited group in Seoul; the other can extend the moment through objects and design. Together, they underline how a major K-pop anniversary can be commemorated even when the artists’ schedules do not point to a single large-scale group production.
What the Anniversary Represents
Ten years is a significant marker in an industry where the pace of releases and promotions is often fast. BLACKPINK’s first decade has included record-setting digital reach, headline tours, high-profile festival appearances and solo endeavors that have given each member a separate creative platform. The anniversary offers a chance to recognize that span without reducing the group’s story to one format or one achievement.
As August 8 approaches, the Seoul gathering and Heritage Collection provide two ways to observe the occasion. More importantly, the date highlights the continued place of BLACKPINK as a group: four artists with individual directions, a shared catalog and a decade of history that remains central to contemporary K-pop.
