SEVENTEEN Reaches RIAJ Million Mark as BOYNEXTDOOR, NEXZ and PLAVE Earn Gold in Japan
SEVENTEEN’s SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN has passed one million shipments in Japan, while BOYNEXTDOOR, NEXZ and PLAVE received new gold certifications.

SEVENTEEN has added a major Japanese sales milestone to its record with a new Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) million certification for SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN. The 2023 Korean mini album has surpassed one million shipments in Japan, placing it at the top tier of the association’s album-certification scale.
The latest round of recognitions also includes BOYNEXTDOOR, NEXZ, and PLAVE. Each act received a gold certification for a recent release, giving the announcement a broad view of how different generations and formats of K-pop are finding an audience in the Japanese market.
SEVENTEEN crosses the million-shipment threshold
For SEVENTEEN, the result is tied to SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN, an album that arrived in 2023 and has continued to move in Japan well beyond its original release window. The million classification is awarded once an album reaches one million units shipped in the country, making it a notable marker of sustained commercial reach.
RIAJ certifications are based on shipments rather than a direct count of individual purchases or streams. That distinction matters when reading the figures: the recognition reflects the volume supplied into the market, while still signaling strong confidence in an album’s demand. At the RIAJ level, gold begins at 100,000 shipments, platinum begins at 250,000, and million begins at 1,000,000.
Physical releases remain an important part of K-pop’s relationship with Japan. Collectible editions, member-focused inclusions, local distribution, and recurring promotional activity can all keep an album visible after its initial launch. These campaigns can connect music releases with stores, live appearances, fan communities, and media activity over an extended period.
That framework gives the latest SEVENTEEN achievement added context. Moving from the standard gold and platinum tiers to a million certification requires a much larger scale of distribution, and it underscores the group’s durable position in one of K-pop’s most important overseas markets.
Three newer releases receive gold
BOYNEXTDOOR earned gold status for its Korean album HOME, while NEXZ was certified gold for the Japanese EP Hellmate. PLAVE’s Korean mini album Caligo Pt.2 also reached the gold threshold. Each release cleared 100,000 shipments in Japan.
The mix is especially notable because it spans Korean and Japanese projects. BOYNEXTDOOR and PLAVE were recognized for Korean-language releases reaching Japanese listeners, while NEXZ’s Japanese EP reflects activity directly tailored to that market. Together, the certifications show that audiences in Japan are engaging with K-pop through both domestic editions and releases promoted across borders.
They also point to the varied ways artists build momentum. A group with a long-established catalog can keep extending the life of a past release, as SEVENTEEN has done, while newer acts can turn a current album or EP into a regional milestone. Certification results do not measure every part of an artist’s popularity, but they offer a concrete snapshot of which releases are sustaining distribution at scale.
A snapshot of K-pop’s Japanese market presence
Japan has long been a central market for Korean pop acts, with physical albums, localized releases, concerts, fan events, and media promotions all contributing to an artist’s profile. The new RIAJ results capture that ongoing connection without reducing it to a single sound or release strategy.
SEVENTEEN’s million certification stands as the headline achievement in this group, while the gold awards for BOYNEXTDOOR, NEXZ, and PLAVE expand the picture. The four recognitions arrive as evidence that demand is continuing across established names and fast-growing acts alike, with albums still playing a meaningful role in how K-pop reaches listeners in Japan.
